Bring Your Voice to the Future

February 26, 2009 · Leave a Comment

The Colorado Springs Gazette ran a great article yesterday showing what Dream City 2020 is doing throughout the community.

A couple quotes I like:

“We haven’t quite figured out what we’re going to be when we grow up,” said Sallie Clark, vice chair of the El Paso County Board of Commissioners. “It’s kind of like being in college and not knowing what career path you’re taking. It’s that strange adolescent time when you don’t know what you want to do.”

City Councilwoman Jan Martin was singing the same tune, with different words.

“If our community can catch a vision, there’s nothing we can’t accomplish, but we haven’t had a vision in the recent past,” Martin said. “We haven’t been striving to go anywhere.”

Stop Waiting For Someone Else

February 24, 2009 · 2 Comments

Kira P. says of her experience with Dream City 2020:

I am involved in this project because I love learning from others and hearing unique perspectives. I’ve lived in Colorado Springs for only a year and half and the best way to get to know a city is to immerse yourself in grassroots projects. I also believe citizens have a responsibility for the future of our community. We can not passively wait for city officials to decide our direction, but must take initiative ourselves. People are powerful when they are bound together by a shared vision and dream.
My vision for the Pikes Peak region is a community where people care for their neighbors and accept each other for who we are as individuals. We all bring a different flavor to this area, such as a religious or spiritual background, culture, dedication to the armed services, a love for volunteering, and advocacy on behalf of an issue or group of people. I want to see us consider opposing viewpoints and learn about an unknown aspect of our community. I believe people can do this when they work together to solve community problems or tackle challenging issues. We need to teach our children how to get civically involved and necessary civic skills as a young age so they can get involved as well.

Dream Big

February 4, 2009 · 3 Comments

Do you dream? Not just aspirations, but real dreams that go beyond what even seems plausible. Colorado Springs is dreaming together. We’re dreaming for something great to happen in our city.

Check out the Dream City 2020 Website to see what’s bringing life to Colorado Springs.

You’ll be surprised at what people are dreaming for our city. Charles Sakai of Colorado Springs writes:

I invite you to step outside the box for a few moments and consider the following revolutionary concept: instead of throwing away people who have been diagnosed with a mental disorder, let’s start harnessing their human potential!

Another Dreamer, James Sack is excited about what is happening in School District 11 after the City set up a new Urban Growth Boundary:

Now, with boundaries in place, there is in-filling and new life in what was in 2008, shameful (on city planners’ part). Way to go Colorado Springs!
